It's not totally abandoned. A few stubborn people still live there. In the article I read it said nothing about it being taken off the map. I also checked a map, and it was on there, so I think that bit of imformation is false.

I think at one point it was taken off some maps to discourage tourists and vandals. But we're at the point now where no one uses paper maps.

Centralia, Pennsylvania is a lonely ghost-town. Over the past 50 years, the population has gone from over 1,000 to under ten. Half a century ago, a fire started in a landfill. It spread until it hit a old coal mine. Since then, the fire has been spreading along the mine, and feeding off of the coal vein. Most of the townspeople have left, snd their old homes demolished. The roads have broken beyond repair, and the ground smokes, and releases toxins into the air. Despite the dangers, it is a popular tourist attraction. Scientists say that the fire could burn up to 250.

There are many interesting facts about centralia, pennsylvania that lots of us don't know about. Like 50 years ago on sunday, a fire under the town dump whihc it led to demolition to every house/building. The hole town is filled with only 1,400 people in one city. Even though the fire was said to be 50 years ago it still burns today. When the fire bursted it released toxic fumes and coal dieseases.

There are a lot of interesting things about Centralia Pennsylvania. It must be pretty dangerous there because of all the smoke and crumbling ground. I also think it's interesting that tourists still go there even though it's so dangerous. The fact that no one knows for sure how the fires started is kind of weird too. Those are all things that were interesting to me in Centralia Pennsylvania.

A fire back into 1962 has turned Centralia from a town of a thousand some people, to a ghost town. The reason that this happened is because one day a fire started in the town landfill. Now what is interesting about this town is that the fire is still continued to this day because the fire reached the coal mines. If you were to go to Centralia today, it would look like a normal town despite the hill with smoke/steam rising from it. Centralia is a very interesting town in Pennsylvania that was very interesting to learn about.

I believe that most of these people forgot the fires been burning for 50 years. And nobody not even me mentions Todd Domboski and how he fell into that pit.

Centralia Pennsylvania sounds like a very interesting place. I think it is sad and disappointing that a amazing place like that can have a population of over 1,000 people to only a dozen all because of a fire. The fire started in a landfill and spread until it hit a old coal mine. The fire is continuing to burn today because of the oil. The oil released toxic and poisonous gases that killed many people in the surrounding area. I found a lot more interesting information at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/25/centralia-pennsylvania-fire_n_1546552.html Overall Centralia Pennsylvania sounds like a very cool topic to learn about.

Good job Carly i like yours, but i think its weird that people would WANT to go there. I do agree it would be cool to see what it looked like in person, but there is lots of dangerous things there like poisonous gases and a large fire!
